WESTVILLE, MAIN ST, MINERS PARADE ON LABOUR DAY
Collection ID#: PC 00629
Photographer: Unknown
Printer: Unknown, Real Photo postcard
Publisher: Unknown
Postmark: Oct 21, 1905, New Glasgow, NS & Oct 1905, Williamsport, Pa
This very clear image, is addressed to Miss Lena Fisher, 357-5th Street, Williamsport, Pa, and mailed by Neil D. Campbell, Box 485, New Glasgow, NS.
This image was taken from just behind the telephone pole that sits on the corner of Main Street and Hoyt Street in Westville. The postcard shows an attractive downtown, but if one looks at a present day Google street view, http://goo.gl/maps/CRAVC, you can see that most of these buildings are now gone or drastically modernized, resulting in a sadly desolate appearance. There are two small boys by the railway crossing sign that appear to be barefoot, so the weather must have been warm, but otherwise, everyone seems to have dressed for the parade.
